I just realized I haven't done this since the end of January!  Too long.

1.

I just finished updating our family albums!  I had to get prints made going back to last September!

Not only did I get caught up, I ran out of album :(  So I picked one up today while we were at Wal-Mart.

2.

After a run of sickness, we're finally back on track for school.  

As much as the kids refuse to cooperate with school when they're sick...

...they also get into a funk when we get off schedule.  Go figure...

3.

I figured out our crafts for the rest of Lent and some for Easter, including the upcoming feast days for St. Patrick, St. Joseph and the Annunciation.  We also have several things planned for the Tridium.

Now I'm off to finish putting together the timeline notebook for my son's world history.

Small Successes

We finally got the speech therapy evaluation done!  We should hear back about our options in the next week or so.

2.

I finally made some changes to our curriculum!  The books are starting to come in and it's like Christmas all over again.  It's exciting and I'm really looking forward to getting started.

3.

Getting this post done. Today.  Before midnight.  I just can't seem to catch up and stay caught up lately.  Post-holiday blahs???

Small Successes

For the week of: January 3, 2010

"It’s important for moms to recognize that all the small successes in our days can add up to one big triumph. So on Thursday of each week, we do exactly that."

1.

We got started back to school this week.  I *really* didn't want to, (I have so many unfinished things...)but I know it's what the kids really need.  We all do.  It feels good to be getting back to some structure and order around here.  

2.

I got my projects list for the coming year made up.  I even figured out a loose schedule of sorts so that I can actually get them done this year!!!  I'm so happy.

3.

I got a *bunch* of the kids' older toys packed up into the attic or off to Goodwill.  Stuff they had outgrown or stopped playing with and a few things that just drove me nuts :)  I'm sure we all have a few of those toys around the house.  I'm keeping stuff since I think we're done having kids, but then again...you never know.  I *do* know though, that if I were to get rid of things, I would regret it.

A New Years' Small Success: remembering to actually use the new date each time I've needed to write it (so far)!

Small Successes

Well...  This isn't exactly a small success, it's quite a large one (at least for me).  I finished making the ornaments for our Jesse tree!!!!!!!!!!  WooHoo!!!  What a major load off.  I'm really happy with how they came out and I can't wait for the kids to see all of them, not that I'm rushing Advent or anything ;)

2.

  I'm (finally) making a dent in the ongoing project list I have.  I've been meaning to come up with a daily schedule for us, as well as a daily school schedule, and I finally sat down and did it.  I'm also working on one for school, that may take a bit of time.  I really don't want to be so regimented as to say "we do math from 10-10:30, grammar until 11:00" or something like that.  I like to be a bit more flexible and give the kids more of a say in what to do and when each day.  Within reason of course :)  And, yes, I know a schedule can be thrown out the window at a moment's notice.  God knows I've done that on many an occasion.  But I do like to have a baseline.  I've read about people using time blocks and I think that could work well for us.  Especially since doodlebug still likes to keep me on my toes.

3.

I figured out Christmas Eve dinner!  My husband's side of the family has gotten together on Christmas Eve for the big celebration for years, it gives the daughter-in-laws a chance to spend Christmas Day with their families.  This year I was supposed to host the Christmas Day celebration with hubby's side and my side (only 3 people), while my SIL was supposed to do the Eve.  Well...they're closing on a house shortly after Christmas.  So glutton for punishment that I am, I volunteered to switch years.  She accepted.  So now I'm hosting the Eve for hubby's side (and mine too), but I don't know what we'll do for Christmas Day.  Honestly I'm not sure we'll get together on Christmas Day.  2 years ago when I was preggo with doodlebug we hosted the Eve, and stayed home on the Day just the 4 of us.  That was really nice and relaxing.  Big 'ole preggo belly in pj's all day long.  I felt so close to Mary that year, but that's a whole other post :)

Long story short (this is short??), I figured out the menu and who needs to bring what for Christmas Eve.  Now to figure out the timetable :)

Small Successes

For today:  November 19, 2009

"It’s important for moms to recognize that all the small successes in our days can add up to one big triumph. So on Thursday of each week, we do exactly that."

1.

I've completed the banner and the first week's ornaments for our Jesse Tree!  I'm sooo excited.  I'm working on a few other projects at the same time so I don't think I'll get them all done before Advent, but hopefully by the start of December.

2.

I've made the shopping list for Thanksgiving.  Not as bad as I thought it would be.  I also got the desserts decided on and the bread baked to make the bread stuffing.

3.

I started making a list (s) of the various projects I want to do during Advent.  I have so many sources to go through for ideas.  Too many really.  The boys each have stuff in their Image of God books, plus Year with God, a few blogs: here, here, here, & here as well as some other books.  Whew!  I procrastinated long enough, I'm glad to be getting on with it.  Now to keep the list simple so we can remember the reason for the season.

So many thing, where to start... :)

Jesus, Mary and Joseph are finally done for our Nativity!!!!  YIPPEE!

I've framed AND hung all of our recent, and not so recent, pictures.

We've started on Thanksgiving crafts.  I have a few planned, I'll get pictures up soon.  Promise!  And I have several Advent projects in the works.  I'm also looking at several of the blogs I follow for more ideas.  The big question is:  Are we going to get any non-Advent/Christmas related school work done???  We'll see :)

Speaking of Thanksgiving...I've planned the guest list (family, we're not fancy) and we just need to get in contact with one person, the menu AND who needs to bring what (just need to tell them :) ).  Now I need to get another folding table (the family keeps growing) and decide on desserts, make a shopping list and set my timetable and I'll be done.  Gee...that's not a lot is it?!?  BTW...I'm sooo methodical that I actually plan what to do (cleaning, baking, thawing, etc) for each day of the week leading up to a holiday.  I also plan what time each thing needs to happen on the day of! What time the bird goes in the oven, comes out, needs to be carved.  What needs to be put on the stove & when.  It helps the time flow smoothly and we eat on time, but man, am I compulsive!

Small Successes

It’s important for moms to recognize that all the small successes in our days can add up to one big triumph. So on Thursday of each week, we do exactly that.

1.

There's nothing small about this success, but I've made it through the past 10 months of misery torture difficulty with the most needy/clingy/complaining of my 3 kids.  He finally seems to be past what ever was bothering him and is now a MUCH happier boy!  YIPPEE!

2.

Got the house clean AND managed to bake brownies all in one day!

3.

Doodlebug has been transitioned from eating in a high chair to sitting in a booster seat pulled up to the table, and he loves it!

Small Successes

For Today Thursday October 15, 2009

1.

Mary is almost done!!!  I just have some touching up to do, which should be done tonight.  Then spray sealant, tomorrow night.  And she'll be done!  Only 3 days behind "schedule" :)  Not too bad for having started more than 2 weeks later than I wanted to :)  

I'll start Joseph tomorrow night, planning on having him done by the end of the month.  We're doing a Jesse tree this year, so I need to make all the ornaments.  I'm planning that for November.

If I have time in December, I'll try to get the Angel Gabriel done.

2.

I've decided on some changes that need to be made in the way I do school with Velcro Boy.  He is a very active 4 year old little boy, who's also a kinesthetic learner who likes to move around.  Trying to sit and read to him and do things with him just has not been working lately.  I've been getting so frustrated, and he hasn't been learning.  I've even been thinking of putting him in school just to get some space from him.  His speech also isn't improving and we're thinking of a speech therapy evaluation.  Oops, this is supposed to be a success post, not a ranting post :)  I've figured out (I think) a few things to do differently that I'm hoping will be what he needs and allow me to get through to him.

3.

I found a planner for school!!!  The old method just wasn't working, and quite frankly was driving me nuts.  So after some fruitless searching, this one dropped into my lap, or inbox as it were :)  I'm playing around with it, but it really looks promising.

I finally managed to get started painting Mary for our Nativity set.  We bought a 20+ figurine Nativity set last Christmas and I'm just now starting to paint it :)  I finished the baby Jesus a few weeks ago.  Now onto Mary.  Hopefully in a few weeks I can post about Joseph!

2.

The kids and I seem to be finally almost better.  We've all been sick since last Friday and it's gotten old.  Hopefully I can get caught up over the weekend and get back to routine.

3.

My blog has been found!  I have my first follower and someone else commented on a posting.  I'm really excited about this.  I thought it would take forever for someone to find me!  And who, in the world, would want to read my stuff???
